ICT Stands For In Computer Technology

ICT is the acronym for information and communication technology, which is defined as a system of devices (computers) connected by computer networks (the Internet). The term was originally applied to an emerging field of study that involves the application of computers to the storage, retrieval, and transmission of digitized information.

The acronym ICT was first used in a European Commission report on the “Information Society” published in 1988. It stood for “Intelligent Communication Technology” but was later changed to “intelligent communication transmitter” after it was discovered that there already existed an ITT Corporation with whom there could be confusion between acronyms.

Information and Communication Technology

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a broad concept that encompasses all the technologies involved in the creation, processing, storage, and dissemination of information. Information technology is often used synonymously with ICT, but they are not quite the same thing. ICT includes computer hardware and software as defined by the International Standard Organization’s ISO 80000-2:2009 standard, but it also includes other devices such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), routers, switches, and modems that enable people to communicate with each other.
